As part of D&P’s charity volunteering scheme I offered my support to plant poppies at the Tower on London, which is commemorating the outbreak of the First World War. It has mounted one of the most stunning artistic commemorations of the centenary.

The moat of the Tower will turn entirely red though the installation of over 800,000 ceramic poppies, each one beautifully handmade in the studio of artist Paul Cummins.
You can own your piece of history and a part of the unique installation ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ by ordering a poppy planted in the moat. The net proceeds from every poppy sold will be shared equally amongst six service charities.
Every evening, the Last Post is played at sunset. 180 names are read out in this nightly ceremony and you are invited to nominate a member of the Commonwealth forces who was killed in the First World War to have their name included. My great-grandfather will be part of the Roll of Honour in around 10 days time so I will be visiting again.
It’s an absolute must to visit.
