The New North Press is an artisan letter press studio, located in East London, who focus on the increasingly lost art of hand set typography. They hold an archive of forgotten typefaces in metal and wood blocks, never seen on a digital platform and hold workshops which allow people access to these and their printing equipment. Nice items for sale on their web shop too.
In a recent project in combination with type designers Scott Williams and Henrik Kubel of A2-Type, New North Press have commissioned a new typeface made up of 3D printed letter blocks. A fascinating juxtaposition of technologies new and old, but also breathing life into a process which, while once the norm, is now on the brink of extinction.
